Wrapping up the Week - 2/4

Family Read Alouds ::
During the Day Reads ~ Taking a break from Five Children and It to read selections from First Communion Days

   The boys have been listening to Freddy the Detective and the girls have listened to Ballet Shoes.

My Reading List ::

Around the House ::  We finally took down our Christmas card photo garland and make red and pink hearts with little holy cards glued in the middle.

I have been thinking that Lent, Easter, and First Holy Communion are right around the corner.  Yikes.

Around the Kitchen ::  In an effort to find a use for a lone can of sweetened condensed milk, we made this caramel corn recipe.  I highly recommend  the recipe, it made a somewhat softer carmel corn, not the kind that breaks your teeth when you bit in.

A quick and easy treat...

I need to spend less time making dessert and more time on the treadmill!

Winter Outings :: We had a good "dusting" of snow on Tuesday and Wednesday.  Even the frigid temperatures couldn't deter the kids from being outside.  The spent a great deal of time building snow forts in all the piled up snow.
Yes, he does have on two hats!  Who knows why...only Jonah.

plenty of shoveling to be done.

Education ::

Jacob :: 4th grade ~ Horizons, Jolly Robin, Handwriting, Copywork, Vocabulary
Jonah :: 2nd grade ~ MUS, Top Readers series, Handwriting, Copywork, Phonics
Sarah :: 1st grade ~ MUS, all kinds of easy readers and anything else she can find!, Handwriting, Phonics

   Along the Alphabet Path: - Letter “Q” Week ~  Q was for Queen.  Due to the snow we didn’t get to the library, so we only had two books that were on the Q theme.  Blueberries for the Queen and The Queen and the Pirate.  We practiced writing and signing the letter Q.  It seems our crafts and activities this week have been focused on St. Valentine’s Day.  We read Cranberry Valentine and made the Upside Down Cranberry Cake recipe from the back of the book ~ delicious!

I will be making a run to the craft store this weekend to fill up on St. Valentine goodies as well as other goodies for our “R” is for Russia week!!

Please join in and link up your week!  FYI, this may be the last Wrapping up the Week linky, if you haven't heard the linky service that was once free is now going to a paid subscription.  I certainly understand why its going to a paid subscription, and $24 per year is reasonable, just not sure it's a necessary expense for me.  I'll let you know!

That treat looks yummy! I have a can of condensed milk that I might just put to use. :)

I love that you included a picture of you!

I will miss your linky! I hope that don't start charging- or maybe not so much to start off with. I enjoy that your link up is small enough that I can read all of the participants posts- it has a nice "community" feel to it. Either way, I have appreciated your link ups!

Sounds like your week has been busy. We have had a busy week. My eldest daughter started back at school. Our weather here is Australia has been crazy. We are experiencing the tail end of a cyclone at the moment, so lots of monsoon type weather. We are safe and well though, so that is all that matters. Thanks for visiting my blog. Jacinta

Looks like a fun week. Are you printing books for Jacob or putting them on your kindle? After Jim spent way too much time and paper printing off some books for the girls, I may have him convinced to invest in another kindle! We shall see...

I wonder if it's a glitch with the new layout. I will change it and let me know if that works. I have had one other person tell me they were having problems commenting since you mentioned it. Possibly others are, too.

We haven't gotten to the popcorn yet, but we made the pretzel treats today. Fun and simple and yummy!
