Home Education Notebook

As I was pulling this together, I kept thinking "why didn't I do this years ago?".   Also, what is helpful to me, probably won't be helpful to you.  Just as our days are so personalized to our own unique families, so is what we need to have on hand.  But here it is just the same.  Oh, and I did find the George Washington books I misplaced!!

Homeschooling Notebook for Mom

✴ I purchased a large 3" binder, I wanted room for items for six kids, and wanted to have extra space rather than try to jam it into a smaller binder.

     ✴  Divider for each child
           ~ list of curriculum used
           ~ book list
~ list of both short term and long term goals - we are working with Jacob on coming up with some of his own, as well as my goals for each child
~ different things that are pertitnent to each child, for instance, Sarah is interested in learning more sign language, so I have some resources that we could use in the future, then in Leah's I have a list of things to work on for both speech and o.t.

✴ "I'm Bored! List of Activities ~ while I was cleaning and organizing the learning room I made a list of activities I came across that they could pick from when they are "soooo bored".

✴ A Quick At -a- Glance Schedule for me to then use to write on our white board each day in the kitchen.  For example, on Monday's we do writing and geography.

✴  A list of our family vocabulary word of the week

✴ A list of the Five in a Row topics for the particular book that we are rowing, that I want to cover during the week, as well as any go along books to be used.  Also included would be our craft plans for the week.

✴ Family read aloud list - a list of ideas for future read alouds

My hope is that this will easily grow and change with our needs.  So far it has worked better than I could have hoped and has helped the day go a bit smoother.

You are uber-organized! I am envious. I also like the bored list because I have one daughter who can always entertain herself but another who likes to have her options laid out for her to choose from.

Had to laugh at the I'm bored! list.

I love Seton for the way they encourage you to organize into binders. Each year, I only have to add three more...for the Sally and the next grade. The other binders I keep and pull out for that grade as a child enters into it.

You will love the new system. And I'm glad you found those books!

I need to create a "I'm bored" list. Those words echo around here far too much. Great looking binder.

You are full of such good ideas. I took your household notebook idea and may have to steal this one too. One day, once I am in with both feed, I need to buy you lunch and pick your brain!

I meant feet, should type and feed a baby at the same time!

I love keeping-it-together too... ours is similar to yours, but ofcourse adjusted to our curriculum outline. hmmm, like the idea of keeping future references, per each childs interests, on hand. Thanks for sharing!

Great idea! I have often used CHC binders over the years but I think I'm going to adopt your idea of 1 consolidated binder if I can get organized this summer. I find myself constantly asking myself that same "Why didn't I do this years ago?" question. But I realize we are in a constant state of change. God is always molding and forming us into who He wants us to be. These new and fresh ideas are a product of His grace. Thank you for sharing!

P.S. Love your beautiful new blog wallpaper! Also thinking I would add a liturgical divider in my binder to include feast days to help me plan ahead with ways to celebrate, etc. It would be nice to have this in one place, right a long with our weekly goals. I've tried to keep a separate liturgical binder but I find I am more successful if feasts are incorporated with our lesson plans. Do you do a whole separate notebook for Ordinary Time?

Thanks for all the nice comments! I appreciate them all :)

Tiffany~I don't put my liturgical stuff in a binder. Last summer I made a list of all the feast days and any corresponding craft/food idea that I had at the time. I then put in in the front of a see through hanging folder container. I put the craft printout or idea or recipe or whatever in the appropriate hanging folder. I more or less stayed organized for the year....you know how that goes!

OK, I really need to learn how to do this for myself and school days! Maybe this summer I'll force myself to get more organized! Thanks for sharing your great ideas! They are inspiring! Also, I just clicked a vote for you on the Top 25 Homschool Blog contest! I always enjoy your posts and thanks so much for sharing your blessings on NOBH!
