Weekly Photo Collage :: 4/26/2013 – Short & Sweet!

Weekly Photo Collage :: 4/26/2013 – Short & Sweet!

My post today is going to be short and sweet.  It’s been a busy week, we’re celebrating a birthday today!, and a couple of the kids have spring colds.  But I do really like to document our weeks, so here goes:

Learning Time:

This week a majority of the week was spent on the basics, the math basics that is.  The big kids have been working hard with Math U See.  We have been doing lots of review.

Several times this week I used worksheets from Worksheetworks, both for math work and for printing work.

Anna is doing great this week with her reading and is making her way through Run, Bug, Run.  I have then been taking some of the words in the reader and plugging them into the handwriting page on Worksheetworks.  It’s been great reinforcement.

Around the House:

Sharla from The Chaos and The Clutter raved about these waterproof notepads for the shower.  I ordered a couple and have already been filling up the pages!  I think it’s because it can be my only quiet of the day and I can actually complete a thought.  I have been jotting down notes for a talk I’m giving, and I got a cute note from one of the kids 🙂  That’s a winner in my book.  AquaNotes come with a pencil and a pencil holder.

Healthy Living:

Sunday night is normally pizza and a movie night at our house.  While my kids and my husband could probably eat pizza every day of the week, it’s not always my favorite.  Not to mention the fact that it packs on a lot of calories.  I have been seeing various versions of the Zucchini Pizzas floating around Pinterest and decided to give it a try.  It was so easy and yummy.

1.  Cut the zucchini in half and gently scrap out a bit of the seeds to form a hollow for the toppings.

2.  I brushed the zucchini with a small amount of olive oil, crushed garlic and salt

3.  Top with a little bit of pizza sauce and whatever toppings you enjoy.

4.  Pop in a 375 degree oven for about 30 minutes.  Cover and then take the cover off for the last 5 minutes or so.  Mine could have baked for a bit longer.  Next time I will let them go for more like 45 minutes.  It just depends on how soft you want the zucchini to be.  Easy!

Blog Happenings:

On Monday I shared some tips and ideas for Raising Boys to be Men – it was a fun post to prepare and share with you, not to mention an important topic.

I had a fabulous guest post on Wednesday about the need for Foster Care Parents in our country.  Please do read!

Have a great weekend!

Jonah’s Russian Adoption Story

Tomorrow is Jonah’s birthday, a double-digits birthday, as he turns 10!  I’ve never shared his full story so I thought now would be a good time. When we decided to adopt again, Jacob was just about 2 years old.  We knew we wanted to adopt again from Russia and we knew we wanted another boy. […]

Curriculum Plan 2012-2013 {FIAR Printable}

This year marks our 7th year of home education, so hard to believe!  Seems like yesterday when Jacob and I embarked on this adventure together.  His kindergarten year was a busy one, not only were we getting adjusted to adding more formal lessons to our day, but Leah joined our family midway through the year. […]

The Homeschool Mother’s Journal :: Home Repair Edition ~ 3/23/2012

In my life/homeschool this week…this week was home repair central.  On Tuesday we woke up to no hot water and had to have our hot water heater replaced.  Thankfully we are able to have it taken care of the same day, one cold shower was enough!  Wednesday was a trip to the dentist and Thursday […]

Crafty Boy Project

Crafty Boy Project

Jonah is always game for a project.  He is interested in lots of different things, but as he is getting older some of the cut and paste stuff is growing a little boring.  Unfortunately, many of the projects out there are aimed at girls, not crafty boys.For Jonah’s birthday in April, we bought him the […]

Jonah’s Birthday

Jonah’s Birthday

With Jonah we wind up the birthday bonanza that began in early March with Sarah.   What do we say about Jonah?  He is like a cross between Steve Irwin and Bear Grylis from Man vs Wild, with a bit of mad scientist throw in. He will touch any kind of creepy crawling thing, {in […]

Celebrating Easter

Celebrating Easter

This year, not only did we get to celebrate Easter, but Jonah and Sarah both did their First Holy Communion. Our parish chooses to celebrate First Holy Communion on Easter so that the children will always remember the Eucharist and the Resurrection are tied together. “When you look at the Crucifix, you understand how much […]

Critter Control

Critter Control

A few days ago the kids noticed “evidence” on our deck that an animal had been wandering around.  The next morning as I was letting the cat out, I startled a creature digging into the bird seed on our front porch.  I flipped the light on to see a raccoon scampering down the stairs and […]
