Progress, Not Perfection

Progress Not Perfection

2014 wasn’t my most spectacular year in terms of fitness and healthy eating. And it shows. My pants are a bit more snug than I’d like them to be.

The year started out just fine, but then summer hit. We were house hunting, we were traveling, we were moving and traveling some more. We moved and then had our bathroom renovated. Lots of disruptions to our schedule. Way too much food and not nearly enough movement. Eating out frequently never works out well for my wallet or my waistline.

Exercise as a Habit

Now it’s time for the excuses to end and for me to get back to business. This week I’m on week 3 of the 21 Day Fix – one of my favorite programs. Right now I’m focused on getting back to the habit of exercise daily – not just sporadically like I was during the last quarter of 2014. Then I will focus on the nutrition portion. While I have never stopped drinking my beloved Shakeology, the rest of my diet was a bit sketchy. Again, eating out does not help the situation.

I know for me its baby steps that work rather than big sweeping changes. As soon as I say “I’m never eating XX again, all I want to eat is XX!” I just need to focus on including exercise in my morning routine, making good food choices throughout the day, and eating at home! As well as drinking plenty of water.

It’s not rocket science, there is no magic pill.

Simple, but not always easy.

Exercise and Homeschooling

Exercise is a lot like homeschooling. I don’t always feel like doing it when I get up, but I always feel better after I’m done. Like homeschooling, exercise takes perseverance and the payoff isn’t always noticeable right away.

And they both can cause some pains in the nether regions.

Both are worth it though!

I started the 21 Day Fix in Nov. and did great for about two weeks before I got sick — I lost six pounds! I have yet to be able to get back to it and I so need to. Go you!

Love this Jen, and I appreciate how you stress that making progress is more important that perfecting fitness. I am trying to workout a minimum of three times a week, missed it today, but I do yoga most every morning so that counts right?? Happy New Year and thanks for sharing :)

I have the 21-Day Fix, but I cannot seem to get past week 1. The exercise, although only 30 minutes, terrifies me. I am such a wimp! I need to “just do it,” I know. Not sure what is holding me back … I do like the containers, but I do have to plan! This was nice to read! Just trying to get motivated! I need to do this!
