Family Story~Baby E. Domestic

November 15, 2010 by Jen Leave a Comment

Please visit Grace in my Heart for more about this cute family!

We adopted our first child, E, in November 2009.  He turned one at the end of October.  Wow, the year went fast!
1. What led you to adoption?
My husband and I turned to adoption to fulfill our dream of becoming parents.  Since we are unable to have children of our own, we saw adoption as a beautiful gift and a blessing for infertile couples like ourselves.
2. What was most helpful in the beginning of your journey?
I found a lot of help in asking others who had adopted to share their experiences.  For me, talking to someone who had been through the process already was extremely helpful.
3.  What were/are your favorite adoption resources?
The website Adoption Voices was great (www.adoptionvoices.com).  I also really enjoyed the adoption book written by Dr. Ray Guarendi. (Adoption: Chosing It, Living It, Loving It)
4.  How did you fund your adoption?
We saved, saved, and saved some more!  There were also some miracles along the way.  I think God takes care of adoptive families in this department.
5.  Why did you choose International/Domestic/Foster?
We chose domestic adoption because it was less expensive.   We also realized we wouldn’t have to travel for a long period of time.  Due to my husband’s work schedule, extensive travel was not an option.
6.  Anything you would say to encourage those still on the fence?
I can’t imagine our life without our little E!  He is “our’s.”  God has a way of leading people to adopt and then leading them to their child.  If you’re on the fence, I would suggest praying and listening to what God wants you to do.
7.  Any adjustments/challenges with your child/children?
Sleep deprivation, haha!  🙂  He sleeps through the night now though- thank goodness!
8.  What was your biggest fear?
We endured one failed adoption before E, so of course I was scared to death that this was going to happen again.  There are risks with adoption and I have to remind myself that everything that happens is all apart of God’s almighty plan.
9.  What has been your greatest blessing?
I love being a mom!  Little E has brought us so much joy!  Hearing him call me “mama” and when he gives me hugs and kisses are some of the best moments.  I thank God for the gift of adoption!

Thank you for sharing your story!
