Feast Days Galore

This is the week for Feasting!

St. Nick’s Feast Day ~ December 6th

A few more of our Christmas decorations made their way from the basement over the weekend.  We needed to be sure that our stockings were out and ready for St. Nicholas.  I know the tradition is that St. Nick leaves things in shoes, but in our house we do our stockings!

The children each received a new pair of pajamas, gold (chocolate) coins, and a new box of crayons, along with a little activity book and stickers.
Then we feasted on hot chocolate with marshmallows and whipped cream and more chocolate.

Later we read Country Angel Christmas, and a personal favorite in our house, A Miracle of St. Nicholas a story set in Russia.

Grandfather Frost and St. Nick matryoshka dolls we purchased in Russia.

Immaculate Conception ~ December 8th

Today we will start out the Feast of the Immaculate Conception by attending mass.  I have a coloring page from Catholic Icing, but no other craft planned.

St. Juan Diego ~ December 9th and Our Lady of Guadelupe ~ December 12th

Inspired by Gardenia at Love My Little Flower, I finally took out some stored away candles and made them useful.

The image on one side is of the Immaculate Conception, the image on the other side is Our Lady of Guadelupe.

The candles were so easy to do, we kept going.  Jacob made a marian one to give as a gift and I put images of the nativity on another to use on Christmas morning.

Over the next few days we will read The Lady of Guadelupe, watch the Juan Diego movie, and listen to the Juan Diego story.  Lots of great ideas at Catholic Icing, we might have to make a grocery store run to get some paper bags!  Thursday we will have enchiladas for dinner, and at some point enjoy mexican hot chocolate.  Yum!  love this time of the year.

Don’t forget, St. Lucy is up next week…

I am linking up with Homeschool Goodies for more creative Our Lady of Guadelupe ideas.

Happy Advent and Happy Feasting!
