Farm Sensory Tub

July 28, 2011 by Jen 15 Comments

With Leah doing riding therapy and our weekly trip to the farm to pickup our CSA, it seemed logical to learn more about farms this month.

Farm Sensory Tub

I added a few large bags of popcorn, a toob of farm animals, and then some other items from a Playmobil farm that we used to have.  We also had a little collection of small horses.  You could also easily add in some small tractors and other equipment.  We have some of the larger Ertl items that the kids use in the sandbox, so I opted not to purchase small ones.

Here are some of the farm books we have been reading this month:

Little Farm by the Sea

Tuttle’s Red Barn

On Uncle John’s Farm

Horses!

Saving Strawberry Farm

Fantastic Farm Machines

On the Farm

It’s amazing how appealing these simple sensory tubs are, even the big boys couldn’t wait for their turn!

All of those titles are new to me! My girls always loved Big Red Barn. Sensory tubs are something that I never thought about doing with my girls when they were smaller. Maybe I’ll give them a go this time around with my son! Thanks so much for linking up to RAT!

What a creative sensory tub, Jen! If I were there, I’d be playing in it, too!

I love the sensory tubs, Jen! Wish I would have known about them when my kiddos were little! 🙂

Amy, thanks for reminding me of one of our very favorite books! I think I had it memorized when my boys were younger. A great book indeed.

Fun titles- “Tuttle’s Red Barn” and “Saving Strawberry Farm” look especially interesting. Two of our favorite farm books are “Going to Sleep on the Farm” and Nancy Tafuri’s “This is the Farmer”. They might be more toddlerish though.

Oh! And, I pinned you. 😉

What a wonderful idea. We are reading through the Laura Ingalls Wilder books, and currently on Farmer Boy.

The corn in this Sensory Bin makes total sense! Love it! (I’m still working on pulling together a Space one!) Thanks for stopping by! When are you starting up your weekly wrap-ups again?

Great idea for a tub. My daughtet is eight and she still loves it anytime I fill a container with oatmeal or grains and a few toys and just let her play. Thanks for linking up to the NOBH.

Thanks Lori! There might be a few kinks for a couple of days, but hopefully all will be okay.
