Wrapping up the Week - 11/19

What We Are Reading→
Russian Winter
Knit Two
On my Kindle: The Rosary
Bob is reading The Hobbit to the boys

On My Waiting to be Read Pile
Theology of the Body for Beginners
Jane Eyre
Brideshead Revisited
How to Read a Book

Around the House→ Lots!  The new couch we ordered is due to arrive today.  I am praying it fits where it is supposed to and that we like the fabric we chose.  We also have a post-placement visit today which has resulted in a short, but busy school week.  I am still working on completing my "before Thanksgiving list" and have started a craft to give as a gift.

Fall Kitchen→ We had a Korean dinner this week.  I made this recipe, Maple Syrup Korean Teriyaki Chicken.  It's from Allrecipes, but I swiped the idea from Charlotte @ Waltzing Matilda,  plus we had (store bought) kimchee which is always a crowd pleaser for most of the family and Bob brought home a couple of sweet treats.  The chicken was a big hit and I will definitely make it again.

Tea Time→ Continued with our practice of the Leaves poem.  I would like them to have the poem memorized by next week.  This was our last official tea time for November, next week is all about Thanksgiving.

Discovery Time→

Basic Skills Unit:  We took a break from The Bobbsey Twins this week.  We have all been reading various books about Korea.  The boys have been busy publishing a newspaper, complete with photos.  I find it rolled up and “tossed” on my nightstand!

Jacob ~ Religion, Mental Math, Vocabulary, Map Skills, Nature Reader
Jonah ~ Religion, Handwriting, Phonics, MUS, All About Spelling Reader
Sarah ~ Religion, Handwriting, Phonics, MUS, Bob Books, Word Searches

Along the Alphabet Path: - K is for Korea, its all about Korea this week!  We are going to continue with our Korea studies into next week, since this was a busy one and next week is short.  Here's what we did this week.  We practiced writing the letter K in rice and colored pictures of people in traditional Korean dress.  I put the girls in their Hanbok and took a quick picture.  This was a spur of the moment idea, so I didn't figure out how to properly tie the knot on the dress.  I did find a you tube tutorial so I will know how to do it next time.

We watched two dvd's from our library about life in South Korea, Families of Korea and Korean-American Heritage.  Both were good peeks into daily life for a child in South Korea.  We also read more about Saint Andrew Kim.  I found this link with more information.  I couldn't get the youtube video to play all the way through, I'm not sure if it's just my computer.  I love the quote!

We also used many of the resources from this post at Waltzing Matilda.  The books are great reads, books we will pick up again and again.  We also used some of the resources from RainbowKids.

Also, a reader sent me a link to Mary in Hanbok, this is gorgeous!  I have been thinking that I might order two at some point to save for the girls.  It might be a nice gift upon graduation, marriage etc.  I want one for myself :)

Next week I will post some of the many books we read about Korea.

I am thankful for.......my two Korean girls!

Please join in and add your wrap up of the week to the linky below.  Add your blog and link back to mine.  Take a minute to visit the other blogs that are linked up, leave a comment to let them know you stopped by!  FYI... next week's wrap up will be on Wed. the 24th.  Most will probably have a short, relaxed week so feel free to share your Thanksgiving crafts, traditions and/or favorite Thanksgiving recipe ❀

Wonderful post! They are so adorable in their hanboks!!! You did a good job with the bow. Glad the guys do not have one :)

I did manage to find Korean hanboks for Barbie dolls at www.heartandseoul.com. The Easter bunny delivered then the year we brought Stan home which fell in Holy week of '06.

They still play with those gowns. I need to finish my post and link up!

Thank you for directing me to your posts! I forgot about The Royal Bee- I think I ordered it from the library a while back on your recommendation.

I actually have not been able to comment on your posts in a while, but for some reason it is working right now. I love your laundry post- that has been my struggle my who married life! Over the past few years, it has gotten better.
