St. Valentine's Celebration

Last night we made and decorated heart-shaped cookies....

The kids woke up to a small treat from St. Valentine.

We read our favorite Valentine book:

Saint Valentine

Then we made a craft.  I saw this idea at Waltzing Matilda.  I loved it because it incorporated the the American Sign Language sign for "I love you".  Very fitting as we are working on asl signs this year.

This is the prayer on the back of the St. Valentine Day holy card:

"O St. Valentine, lover of Christ and of the Church, we ask your intercession that we may learn how to love God above all things, and to selflessly love one another.  O glorious St. Valentine, pray for us, that we too may have the steadfast faith of the martyrs."

We made this quick and easy craft last Friday.  It is simply torn tissue paper stuck between two pieces of heart shaped contact paper glued to a heart shaped frame.

Tonight we will have a dinner of Macaroni and Cheese and Hot Dogs!  Not a very romantic dinner, but a favorite of my kids.  I think this is a personal record for most crafts done in one week!  We painted, we glued, we cut, we tore....Happy St. Valentine's Day.

What a fun craft! And the cookies look yummy. All my kids are getting are little M&M packages. However, I was really happy with, and the kids were thrilled with, making homemade Valentine's cards for their classmates.

Because Paul and I were married on Feb 17, we have never in our married life really celebrated Valentine's Day other than to get a card and I usually make a nice meal. However, this year, we are having bacon, eggs, and hash browns for dinner. My kids love breakfast for dinner (or lunch or breakfast - they just love bacon and eggs) so I decided to just go with that. Hot dogs and mac-n-cheese would be high up on their "favorites" menu. :)

Happy St. Valentine's Day!

I love the sign language you incorporated. Brilliant idea! Those cookies look yummy...I had intended to bake some but my stomach didn't like it :) Poor Sally had a fever this morning and had to miss the home school group's valentine party. David took the others and I stayed back with little miss who was very sad. They did bring her home a valentine bag full of valentines and a few treats from the party. Ended well:)

I love those tissue paper "stained glass" hearts - so beautiful! And those "I love you" hands - my husband and I use that signal with all children all.the.time. In fact, we even have done pre-need setup of our cemetery and funeral arrangements, and chose the I love you sign for our bronze plaque. We decided that way down the road when our children visit our graves, what do we want them to see?

Normally I would be all over those cookies & they do look YUMMY- but then I saw your photo of the stained glass heart projects- how very cool. I have been meaning to do that with my kids for a while now- I know they will love it. Thanks for the reminder!

One more thing...do you know about the "Signing Time" videos by Rachel Coleman. I think I remember you commenting on my post about them awhile ago, but just wanted to tell you again just in case you haven't seen them. They're great!

Found you on No Ordinary Blog Hop and was so encouraged by your story. I was blessed with one child, but have so longed for a larger family. It took 8 years to conceive my son and it has already been 7 more years with no more pregnancies. We are getting ready to become foster parents with hopes of adoption. I grabbed your button and am now following your blog.
blessings,
Jacqui
