5 Fun Reasons to Attend a Homeschool Convention

It’s convention time in the homeschool world.  It’s time not only to start thinking about curriculum for the new homeschool year, but it’s also time for the proverbial shot in the arm.  Information, encouragement and inspiration for a new school year.

Tomorrow we are packing up and heading to FPEA Convention in Orlando.  I’m helping out in the Nancy Larson Science booth, the kids are signed up for the children’s programs, and the teen program, and I’ve given my hubby a list of a few sessions that we are interested in, mainly some of the high school offerings.

Why bother attending a homeschool convention?

1.  Because Everyone is Doing It – There is something very encouraging about being surrounded by a very large group of like minded people.  A very diverse group of people, but with a singular focus, that of educating their children.

2.  Save Money – Most vendors offer convention discounts and free shipping.  Especially helpful if buying homeschooling materials for a large family, those discounts add up.  Plus, it’s so valuable to actual be able to look at the curriculum and chat with the people in the booth.  I have a couple of curriculum vendors that I’m anxious to visit!

3.  Learn Something New – Usually the talks are very high quality, a good deal of informative and encouraging information.  As parents we need to practice what we preach and we should be continually educating ourselves in the matters of our faith and how we educate our children.  It shows our children that we never stop learning and growing.

4.  Shake Things Up a Bit –  Sometimes it’s only a phrase, or the thought of a different curriculum that causes us to do some re-evaluating.  Just because this is the way we’ve always done something doesn’t mean that’s the way we always need to do it!

5.  Kids/Teens Programs – Just like homeschool moms and dads get invigorated hanging around with other homeschool parents, homeschool kids get invigorated spending time with other homeschooled kids!

Two more upcoming Florida Homeschool events:

Florida Home Education Summit

IMH Conference of Tampa – July 17th & July 18th {I’m going to be out of town, I’m disappointed to miss this!}
