What we are reading ::

The Spirituality of George Washington

Reed of God

listening to: One Thousand Gifts, it’s free right now on Audible.com

Family Reading: The Marvelous Land of Oz

Bob just started reading The Fellowship of the Rings to the boys

Around the House :: Sarah is doing great.  I have to keep reminding her to slow down.  She has received some fun treats to help her recoup.  Thanks Patty!

Around the Kitchen ::  green smoothies!

Education ::

We briefly worked on our George Washington study this week.  We read several library books, including George Washington, and George Did It.  We didn’t dig into Amanda Bennett study too much this week.  A couple of weeks ago I ordered several George Washington books from Amazon.  They arrived and I apparently put them in a “special spot” that I now can’t find!  Ack!, it’s been driving me crazy this week.  I’m worried that I accidently threw them away or donated them somewhere, I just can’t locate the darn books….

Jacob~4th grade ::  Horizons, The Tale of Old Mr. Crow, Vocabulary, Handwriting/Copywork, IEW
Jonah~2nd grade ::  Math-U-See, various readers, Handwriting, Phonics-Explode the Code
Sarah~1st grade ::  Math-U-See, various books, Handwriting, Phonics-Explode the Code

We started our Five in a Row book, The Little Red Lighthouse and the Great Gray Bridge

Monday: We read the book and we also read A Walk in New York.  We found New York on the map, found the Hudson River, and The George Washington Bridge.  I made a customizable word search on Worksheetworks.com that related to the book and to George Washington the president.

Tuesday: Along with our main story we read Keep the Lights Burning Abbie.  We talked more about lighthouses and remembered that we visited one not long ago.  We watched a couple of youtube videos about the actual Little Red Lighthouse.

Last summer we visited a lighthouse on Lake Michigan.
Do you notice Jonah down walking along the edge??  Bob has the death grip on Leah, because she would love to be walking next to Jonah…
Lake Michigan Lighthouse, Ludington North Pierhead
Wednesday: We read the go-along book, River by Joyce Powzyk, and talked about rivers, why they are important, wildlife etc.

Thursday:  We focused on bridges and attempted to make them with marshmallows and toothpicks.

 more on Toothpick Bridges & Structures

Friday: Our final read through the book and we discussed vocabulary and story elements such as personification.

Thanks for tagging along on our week.  Join in the link up to share your week too.
