Weekly Photo Collage :: What We're Reading Edition - 2/8/2013

For the most part we're still getting back into our school routine for this week.  We're still plugging along with our unit study on Italy.  So much to cover, the kids have enjoyed it a great deal.

This week I thought I would share photo collages of some of the books we have been reading.  I came home from BEECH Retreat with a load of swag, and we were blessed with a great big stack of books!

1.  QBQ - Question Behind the Question - John Miller, and his oldest daughter Kelly, spoke at BEECH Retreat.  They speak about personal accountability.  I loved their talks, personal ability is something we are sorely lacking in life these days, don't you agree?  He gave us three books and I'm anxious to get through all of them.

Parenting the QBQ Way

QBQ: The Question Behind the Question

Outstanding: 47 Ways to Make Your Organization Exceptional - your organization is your family!

2.  Staying Sane as you Homeschool - who doesn't need this book?!

7 Tools for Cultivating Your Child's Potential

Next up, what the kids are reading:

1.  Jacob is reading Treasure Island {great price on Kindle edition}  and Jonah and Sarah are reading The Moffats

I received the next two books from BEECH Retreat, looking forward to reading both of them with the kids.

2.  The Missing Link Found and Challenge on the Hill of Fire

and

3.  Various picture books with the younger kids

Books I'd like to read:

While I was away I had the opportunity to do some book store browsing, which is rather rare for me.  Usually I do all my book buying through Amazon.  I found several books that sounded very interesting.  Have you read any of them?  Please do share.

1.  The Light Between Oceans, the concept of this book reminded me of the children's book The Sea Chest.  The Sea Chest is an interesting book and my children enjoy listening to the story.  The Light Between Oceans takes the premise of finding a child in the sea and great deal farther.

2.  Secret Daughter - another story about adoption and the implications of international adoption

3.  The Shoemaker's Wife - the relationship of two people throughout the course of their lives

4.  Mrs. Lincoln's Dressmaker - explores the friendship of Mrs. Lincoln and her dressmaker

Have you read any of these books?  Any other good book recommendations?

I read the secret daughter. I had strong emotional reactions to the characters, especially the wife. I will be curious to hear your reaction to the book.

Thanks for the reading suggestions, I love Adriana Trigiani. I am currently reading The Aviators Wife, about the Lindberghs. It mentions Captiva Island near the end. Great read!

oooh yay for Beech retreat and free books! Love seeing what others are reading! And the great thing about unit studies is you can literally take as much or as little time on it as you want! Visiting from Collage Friday!
