Botanical Gardens

We had a good time walking through the botanical gardens last week.  We walked the 1.2 mile loop with no stroller or wagon!  The kids found lots of interesting bugs, we caught glimpses of a couple of snakes and at the end of our trip found a dead snake in the trail.  We think it might have been a rattlesnake.  There is one particular variety of rattlesnake that is common to the botanical gardens.  The only downside to our little hike was the mosquitoes!

Fat Tuesday

President's Day Again

Along with our letter to President Obama, we also did a few other 'Presidential" things.  In honor of Abraham Lincoln we built log cabins out of lincoln logs, in honor on George W. Bush we made cowboy cookies (yum!), and in honor of George Washington we made a cherry cheesecake.

Candle Making

On February 2nd the church celebrates Candlemas, or the Presentation of Our Lord.  The priest blesses the candles before Mass.  It is also appropriate to have the candles that you will use in your home throughout the year blessed.  The kids and I ordered a candle making kit from Magic Cabin.  It was a very simple kit that we could all complete easily.  We then took our candles to the noon Mass at St. Thomas to have them blessed.  There were other home school families present with their candles as well.  The priest invited the children up to front with their baskets of candles to be blessed.

Catch Up Posts!

Due to the fact that I have been without a way to easily download my photos to my computer, I have neglected our blog.  Since my husband was kind enough to purchase a MacBook for me for Mother's Day (!!!!!!), I can now get things caught up :)
